Keeping it fresh in the dairy aisles With shoppers looking for healthier alternatives, the rise of animal welfare concerns and the demand for British provenance products on the rise, the UK is seeing a rise of innovations in dairy merchandising.

“Veganism is on the rise and the popularity of dairy alternatives is beginning to threaten traditional sales. Retailers have responded by dedicating more space to alternatives and looking at higher welfare milk to hit back at claims from the industries cruelty,” says Hamish Renton, MD of HRA Food and Drink.

At the same time, Brexit has inspired fresh focus on provenance within the aisles. ‘Shoppers want to know where their milk or cheese is from,’ says Renton. Given these concerns, retailers have taken the insight from consumers and bounced back.
